Shanghai is called “hu” or “shen” for short. Located at the outlet where the Yangtze River empties into the sea, Shanghai is the gate of the Yangtze River valley. The city has a comfortable climate and distinctive seasonal changes.
Shanghai is a municipality directly under the central government. It has an area of 6,340 sq km and a population of 13.79 million. Shanghai is a financial, trade and shipping center, a comprehensive industrial base and a well-known historical and cultural city in China.
