Located at the eastern end of the Shandong Peninsula, Weihai is surrounded by water on three sides, and faces the Korean Peninsula across the sea, being the closest spot to the Republic of Korea in China. Weihai covers an area of over 5,400 square kilometers, and has a population of over 2.4 million. It boasts nearly 1,000 kilometers of coastal lines, cumerous harbours and islets, picturesque scenery and a pleasant climate. Weihai is among the first group of sanitary cities in China, and was named as the “model city in the improvement of civilian residences in the world” by the United Nations.
