World Cultural and Natural Mixed Heritage Sites in China
Foreward
China, a civilization with a time-honored history, is richly endowed with heritage sites of great significance. From natural wonders to cultural marvels, historic sites to ethical treasures, China’s heritage is not only abundant in numbers but also incredibly diverse, placing it among the world’s top countries in this regard. In 1985, China joined the International Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, becoming an active participant in global heritage preservation efforts and a dedicated partner with UNESCO.
This online exhibition showcases ten of China’s World Cultural and Natural Mixed Heritage Sites, each a testament to the nation’s profound cultural legacy and natural beauty. Here, you will encounter places such as the lush landscapes of Mount Taishan, celebrated as one of China’s sacred mountains; the scenic and cultural masterpiece of Huangshan (Yellow Mountain), famed for its towering peaks and ancient pines; and Wulingyuan Scenic Area, known for its striking sandstone pillars and biodiversity. Also featured is the breathtaking beauty of Mount Emei with its ancient Buddhist influences. These sites, among others in this collection, represent the incredible blend of culture and natural wonder that is unique to China.
While this exhibition offers a glimpse of China’s heritage, true understanding comes from personal experience. We invite you to visit China, to explore these unique sites, and to immerse yourself in the essence of Chinese culture.
