The former site of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, located in Pingshan County in the central part of the laihang Mountains, Xibaipo was the leading center of the Chinese revolution from May 1948 to March 1949. Here, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China commanded the Three Campaigns that shocked the domestic and the international society, sounded the horn to liberate the entire China, and held the famous Second Plenary Meeting of the Seventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
The Xibaipo Exhibition Hall, covering a floor area of 3,344 square meters, integrates the modern acoustic, optical and electronic facilities to present the historic position and far-reaching influence of Xibaipo. Xibaipo has also built the Monument, the Leaders’ Style Sculpture Garden, the Xibaipo Stone Sculpture Garden and others.
Situated 2 km south to the Zhaoxian County of Hebei Province and 42 km away from Shijiazhuang City, Zhaozhou Bridge was first built from 595 to 605 (from the reign of the founding emperor to the Daye Period of the Sui Dynasty). With a history of more than 1 400 years Zhaozhou Bridge is an ancient stone arch bridge with the longest history, the best reservation, the extremely high scientific level and the extreme artistic image. Seen in the distance, it looks like a dragon that flies in the sky, a cresent moon that is in the clouds, a rainbow that stays high and a jade ring that half sinks. The Bridge also takes pride in the panels, columns, relieves and flowers that feature plump composition, smooth lines, delicate workmanship, vigorous carving, classical and elegant style, diverse appeals, vivid images and profound artistic conceptions.
Zhengding Ancient Town
About 15 km north to Shijiazhuang City, the capital of Hebei Province, Zhengding Ancient Town was historically known as the Three Northern Towns together with Baoding and Beijing. It is the hometown to Zhao Zilong, a famous general in the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280) and also the hometown of Cao Bin, the ancestor of Cao Xueqin (the author of The Dream of the Red Chamber). Despite the changes of the dynasties and the natural corrosion, the ancient town still reserves a large number of cultural relics and historic sites, such as the Longxing Temple, the Linji Temple, the Kaiyuan Pagoda, the Lingxiao Pagoda, the Huata Pagoda and the ancient Confucian Temple. Zhengding became a national historical and cultural town under the approval of the State Council in 1993.
Zhengding has developed new resources without cease on back of the vast cultural relics amid the growing tourism industry in recent years. Since 1986, it has built a batch of new tourist attractions and amusement facilities, including the Rongguo Mansion the Ningrong Street, No. 1 & 2 Palaces of “Journey to the West”, “the Legend of Deification” Palace, the Adventure Paradise, the Military Amusement Park the Wild City and the Zhao Yun Temple.
Great Wall at Jinshanling
Being a national AAAA scenic spot, the Great Wall at Jinshanling (Jinshan Ridge) lies at the juncture between Bake Shiying Town, Luanping County, Chengde City of Hebei Province and Miyun County of Beijing. It is the best reserved section of the Great Wall built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) in China at present. Starting from Longyukou in the west and the Wangjing Tower in the east, it covers a total length of 10.5 km, and is home to 5 passes, 67 towers and 2 beacon towers. Climbing up Wangjing lower, the highest place of the Jinshan Ridge, one can witness the profile of Beijing at dawn and the countless lights in Beijing at night. Looking all around, in the east is the dim Wuling Mountain, in the west the Wohu Ridge stands lofty and firm, in the south is the Miyun Reservoir with shining waves and in the north are the mountains and forests. The tall and beautiful mountains render a magnificent view.
Chengde Mountain Resort
As a world cultural heritage, the Mountain Resort is the biggest royal garden extant in China. Also known as the Rehe Temporary Imperial Palace, it used to be the place where the emperors of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) escaped from the summer heat and engaged in various political activities.
The Resort accommodates mountains, plains and lakes, which form a changeable terrain. Based on the terrain, more than 120 architectures were built, including mansions, towers, palaces, attics, houses, pavilions, temples, corridors and bridges. Among them, the 36 scenic spots named by Emperor Kangxi (1654- 1722) with four Chinese characters and the 36 scenes entitled by Emperor Qianlong (1711-1799) with three Chinese characters are the most famous.
Outlying Eight Temples of the Chengde Mountain Resort
As a vast temple cluster built in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the Outlying Eight Temples agglomerate the folk architectural styles and arts of multiple ethnic groups, including Han, Mongolia and Tibetan. They lie in the east and north to the Chengde Mountain Resort, and just resemble a myriad of stars surrounding the moon―the Mountain Resort.
Actually, the Outlying Eight Temples originally consisted of 12 temples. Among them, eight temples were managed by the Ministry of Minor Affairs of the Qing Dynasty. They are all beyond the Gubeikou Pass, collectively known as the Outlying Eight Temples (meaning the eight temples beyond the Gubeikou Pass). The Outlying Eight Temples have become the synonym of these 12 temples.
Mulan Hunting Ground
Being a national forest park, the Mulan Hunting Ground lies in the north of Chengde City, and used to be a royal hunting ground in the Qing Dynasty (1644- 1911). “Mulan” means “Shaolu”, a special way to hunt wild deer, in the Manchu language. More than 10,000 people went hunting and practicing martial arts each year since 1683 or the 22nd year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty. Now, it is chiefly composed of the Saihanba National Forest Park, the Yudaokou Forest Scenic Spot and the Hongsongwa Nature Reserve.
Being a national resort and scenic spot in China, Beidaihe is 15 km away from Qinhuangdao City in the southwest, and neighbors the Lianfeng Mountain in the north and the Bohai Sea in the south. It is proud of the radiant and enchanting views, pleasant climate, and mild temperatures all year round. Even in the hottest June and July, the average temperature is only 23°C. The entire scenic spot is roughly 13 km long and 2 km wide, forming a narrow coastal zone from the Geziwo and the Jinshanzui in the east to the estuary of the Daihe River in the west. With the soft sand and even beach, it is a good place to enjoy the seawater bath. Beidaihe is a 伯mous tourist attraction in China, and also a summer & recuperation resort famous at home and abroad.
Being a key cultural relic under state protection, Shanhai Pass has earned its name after its geographical location—15 km to the northeast of Qinhuangdao City and lies between the Yanshan Mountain (Mountain means shan in Chinese) and the Bohai Sea (sea means hai in Chinese). As the first pass of the Great Wall, it neighbors the Great Wall in the east, and has four gates: the north gate is Zhendong; the west ate Ying’en Gate; the south, Wangyang; and the Weiyuan. At present, the walls here are well preserved, and the Shanhai Pass Great Wall Museum :nd the Shanhai Pass Weapons Museum have been built.
Situated on the highland 5 km north to Shanhai Pass, Laolongtou forms a peninsula and stretches into the Bohai Sea. As the eastern starting point of the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), here witnesses the entrance of the Great Wall to the Bohai Sea. Meanwhile, the Great Wall starts here to snake through the mountains and ranges to the northwest. From Laolongtou, the majestic look of the marine Great Wall may be enjoyed, and from the Chenghai Tower, the grand view may be appreciated that “the clouds float in the strong wind and in the sun, huge waves hit the sky and the snow piles up”.
Lady Meng Jiang Temple
Also known as the Loyal Lady Temple, the Lady Meng Jiang Temple lies on the rear ridge of Wangfushi Village, about 6 km east to the Shanhai Pass, and was first built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty. The Temple consists of the front hall and the rear hall. The front hall has the statute of Lady Meng Jiang, which is served by young girls and boys on both sides. On both walls are the inscriptions, including those made by three emperors of the Qing Dynasty—Qianlong (1711-1799), Jiaqing (1760-1820) and Daoguang (1782-1850).
Eastern Tombs of the Qing Dynasty
Being a world cultural heritage site, the Eastern Tombs of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), located in Zunhua County, are surrounded by mountains and accommodate a plain in the center. Covering an area of up to 78 square km, the Eastern Tombs of the Qing Dynasty include five emperors’ tombs, four queens’ tombs, five concubines’ tombs and one princess’s tomb. In addition, Empress Dowager Cixi (1835-1908) was also buried here. The entire graveyard takes pride in a vast scale and a solemn atmosphere, lb date, the scenic spots open to tourists include the Cixi Tomb, the Dingling Tomb, the Xiaoling Tomb and the Yuling Tomb.
Tangshan Anti-quake Memorial
Lying on the west side of the Anti-quake Memorial Square in the downtown of Tangshan City of Hebei Province, the Tangshan Anti-quake Memorial is a national AAA tourist attraction with a total floorage of 5,380 square meters. The Memorial features a novel and unique design. A square hall stands aloft in the center surrounded by round buildings. The roof, which is high in the west and low in the east, presents the shape of steps and inclines to the center of the Antiquake Memorial Square. The Memorial hosts a large- scale comprehensive exhibition—Tangshan Construction Achievement Exhibition, which fully displays the comprehensive situations of Tangshan City, the historic data on the earthquake fight and the disaster relief, the post-quake rebuilding, and the magnificent achievements of the reform and opening up and the rich fruits of the construction of mental civilization Tangshan has made after the earthquake in 1976.
Chongli Skiing Ground
265 km away from Beijing Municipality, the Chongli Skiing Ground is located in Xiqueliang in Chongli County and covers an area of 10 square km. It is 1,600-1,900 meters in altitude, and boasts a natural snow period of more than 120 days. Standing on a high place, you may let your eyesight go free to enjoy the endless white snow. To date, 10 ski runs suitable for the basic, medium and high levels have been built. With a combined length of 7,000 meters, the skiing ground can accommodate over 1,000 skiers at the same time, and some of the ski runs may be used for races and drills.
Zhongdu Primeval Grassland Resort
Being a national AAA scenic spot, the Zhongdu Primeval Grassland Resort lies in Sanbao Yingpan Village, Haojiaying Township, Zhangbei County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. About 60 km away from Zhangjiakou, the grassland is an important part of the Xilingol Grassland in Inner Mongolia, and covers a total area of more than 20 square km. With an altitude of over 1,400 meters, the Grassland has the short spring and autumn, an extended winter, and a cool, pleasant summer with an average temperature of 17.4°C. The Resort with a floor space of more than 80,000 square meters, was built and opened in 1993. The major tourism projects include grassland motorbike, kart, horse-riding, camel-riding, archery, the traditional folk sports and recreation items like oxcart-riding, and the Mongolian singing and dancing performance.
Ancient Lotus Pond
Lying in the center of Baoding City, the Ancient Lotus Pond used to be a private garden in the Yuan Dynasty (1206-1368), and is one of China’s top ten ancient gardens. The Lotus Pond Academy was built northwest to the Pond in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Now, the Ancient Lotus Pond was rebuilt into the Lotus Pond Park with an area of 24,000 square meters, including 7,900 square meters of water surface.
In the center of the Lotus Pond is the Shuixin (Central Pond) Pavilion, while around the Pond are the Linyi Pavilion, the Dijin Pavilion, the Hanlu Pavilion and the Zaoyong Hall.
Western Tombs of the Qing Dynasty
Being a world cultural heritage site, the Western Tombs of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) is the graveyard of four emperors’ tombs, three queens’ tombs and the tombs of some princes, princesses and concubines. The entire graveyard covers a floorage of up to 500,000 square meters, and accommodates over 1,000 halls and palaces, more than one hundred stone sculptures and stone architectures, forming a large- scale andmagnificent ancient architectural cluster. With the earliest building time and the largest size, the Tailing Tomb, the tomb of Emperor Yongzheng (1678- 1735) of the Qing Dynasty, is the chief tomb of the entire graveyard.
Yesanpo (Three Wild Slopes)
Yesanpo is a national scenic spot and a national geopark. It lies in the Laishui Mountain and consists of the upper slope, the middle slope and the lower slope, among which the Juma River winds its way. Yesanpo is proud of deep valleys, peculiar caves and ample fun of the wild life. Major scenic spots encompass the Baili Canyon, the Yugu Cave and resorts.
"No.1 City in China"
Lying in the south of Tongzhou District of Beijing Municipality and within Xianghe County of Hebei Province, the “No. 1 City in China” is a large tourist attraction that integrates holiday-spending, sightseeing, entertainment and accommodation.
“No. 1 City in China” is composed of the inner city and the outer city, and surrounded by the 5-km- long rampart and 22 gate towers, which are built at a proportion of 1:1 according to the former look of Beijing in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The inside of the rampart is a two-storey corridor that accommodates hotels, shopping centers, conference centers, indoor entertainment, specialty foods & beverages, and cultural and artistic exhibitions. Langfang Culture & Art Center
Lying at the intersection of Hoping Rd. and North Outer Ring Rd. in Langfang City, Langfang Culture & Art Center is a national AAAA tourist area composed of five tourist attractions—the Natural Circulation Park, the Dream Lake Park, the Art Park, the Wisdom Water Park and the Wisdom, Maxim & Calligraphy Avenue. Waters and green land account for over 80 percent of the total area. In recent years, the Center has gained newborns, including the Cultural Museum, the Calligraphy Avenue and the Library. Based on the landscape design concept of “enlightenment” , the scenic spot covers such domains as cognition, civilization, understanding, education, knowledge, learning, culture, spiritual opening, teaching and wisdom, and enlightens tourists in such aspects as art, drama and literature through the observation and thinking from multiple perspectives, angles and areas.
Wuqiao Circus World
Wuqiao lies at the border between the Northwest Shandong Province and the Southeast Hebei Province, and takes pride in endowed traffic conditions. Beijing- Shanghai Railway, Beijing-Fuzhou Railway and Beijing- Shanghai Expressway, all traffic trunks, cross Wuqiao. Wuqiao Circus World, a scenic spot funded by Wuqiao County Government and Hong Kong, covers a land area of more than 400,000 square meters, and opened on November 26, 1993. The scenic spot encompasses eight tourist attractions, such as the Martial Art Community Culture Town, the Magic Palace, the Mini Mount Taishan, the Circus Amusement Park, the Red Peony Theater, the Acrobatics Museum, the Folk Customs Park and the Comical Animal Park, integrating such functions as entertainment, participation, exchange, performance and F&B, and showcasing the essences of the folk customs and the appeal of the art land.
Ma Benzhai Memorial
Situated north to Benzhai Village, Xianxian County, Hebei Province, Ma Benzhai Memorial is 60 meters wide from east to west, 100 meters long from south to north, and covers a land area of 6,000 square meters. Ma Benzhai (1901-1944) Memorial is composed of 9 parts, which display the life story and deeds of Martyr Ma Benzhai. In front of the gate of the Memorial is a spacious square, in the center of which is the bronze statue of Ma Benzhai, the national hero. The bronze reproduces the heroic story of Ma Benzhai, who killed Japanese invaders during the anti-Japanese war. The exhibition hall with the Muslim architectural style lies at the northernmost part of the Memorial. The bronze statue of Martyr Ma Benzhai stands aloft in the flowers, and its background is the condolence written by Chairman Mao—“Comrade Ma Benzhai Is Immortal!” Opposite the Memorial is the Graveyard of Ma Benzhai and His Mother.
Hengshui Lake, about 10 km southwest to Taocheng District of Hengshui City, covers a water area of 75 square km, and is the second largest freshwater lake in the North China Plain in terms of area and capacity, just second to Baiyangdian Lake. Consisting of multiple habitats including meadow, marsh, beach, water area and forest, Hengshui Lake is an ideal habitat for the survival and multiplication of many wild creatures with its superior natural environment. Bird resources are particularly outstanding among the wild creature resources, including seven bird specimens under the first-class key protection of the state. The wetland of Hengshui Lake has the function of flood control, soil erosion control, pollution degradation, climate adjustment, and improvement of the ecosystem, and is honored to be the Kidney of North China.
Wuqiang New Year Picture Museum
As the first professional New Year picture museum in China, the Wuqiang New Year Picture Museum lies in Wuqiang County along the Cangzhou-Shijiazhuang Highway in the North China Plain, lb date, it is the Chinese New Year picture museum with the largest size, the richest collection and the most welcomed display form. The museum covers a land area of 25,100 square meters, including an exhibition area of 2,500 square meters, hosts nine exhibition halls and two galleries, and also sets up the traditional workmanship restoration display workshop and the folk artwork service department. It collects 3,788 premium New Year pictures created since the Ming and Qing dynasties.
White Cloud Cave in Kongshan Mountain
As a national AAAA tourist attraction in Lincheng County of Xingtai City, the scenic area includes the White Cloud Cave in Kongshan Mountain, the Qishan Lake, the Tiantai Mountain, the Scorpion Ditch and the Ancient Cultural Relics, making it a comprehensive scenic spot integrating cave, mountain, water, forest and cultural relic.
The White Cloud Cave in Kongshan Mountain, which could trace back to the Middle Precambrian 500 million years ago, is a karst cave that is rarely seen in the North China. To date, five chambers have been explored and developed, including the Mortal World, the Paradise, the Lower Region, the Dragon Palace and the Fantastic Music. Connected with each other, they embrace the marvelous spectacles of the karst caves in the world, and render five different worlds and five different feelings with a single turnabout.
Guo Shoujing Memorial
Lying in Dahuoquan Park in Qiaoxi District of Xingtai City, the Memorial covers a land area of 50,000 square meters and a floorage of 4,700 square meters, and chiefly includes such architectures as the Guo Shoujing (1231-1316) Bronze Statue, the Stellar Observatory, four exhibition halls and the Observatory. The display—Guo Shoujing Lifelong Achievements Exhibition—consists of four parts: Giant Star over the Divine Land, Monument of Flood Prevention by Water Control, Peerless Astronomical Merit and Immortal Great Cause, with more than 300 exhibits.
Lying in the Congtai Park in Zhonghua Street, Handan City, the Wuling Terrace was said to be first built by King Wuling (325-299BC) of Kingdom Zhao. The terrace was built to inspect the troop and enjoy singing and dancing. Today’s terrace covers a land area of 3,500 square meters, with a height of 27 meters, packed with black bricks. The terrace has three stories. The upper storey is now 13.5 meters in height, round in shape and 29 meters in diameter. On the terrace is a Triumph Pavilion, which covers an area of 100 square meters, with a height of 13 meters, and adopts the pyramidal roof and double eaves with the bent angles. Surrounded by grass and flowers, the terrace is a place for recreation and tour in modem times, a witness of the history of the capital of the ancient Kingdom Zhao, and the symbol of the ancient town Handan.
It is a national AAAA tourist attraction and a key cultural relic under state protection. It lies on the fang- wang Mountain (the Ancient Zhonghuang Mountain) northwest to Shexian County, 109 km west to Handan City of Hebei Province. It is close to the Shexian- Zuoquan Highway and the Handan-Changzhi Railway. Wahuang Palace is built near the cliff with a total height of 23 meters. With a total of four stories, it is composed of the Worship Hall, the Qingxu Pavilion, the Zaohua Pavilion and the Butian (Sky Amendment) Pavilion, and tied to the cliff with nine iron chains. When the Palace is full of tourists, it will sway. So it is also known as the “Active Mansion” and the ,”Suspended Temple’. All the architectures are built beside the mountain, adopt the unique design, and combine the beauty of the natural view and the essence of the ancient architecture. It has been known as the paradise since the ancient times. It is one of ten wonders of the ancient architectures in Hebei Province.
Yongnian Ancient Town
It is located in Guangfu Town, Ybngnian County, 25 km northeast of Handan City, also known as the Guangpingfu Town, it was first built in the late years of the Sui Dynasty (581-618), and expanded in the Yuan and Ming dynasties (1206-1644) into the current scale. It is an ancient town of the Ming and Qing dynasties with the well-preserved rampart and moat in China’s plain regions. In the ancient time, Ybngnian Town had the grand and solid rampart, the broad city moat, surrounded by water, reputed as a “Mini-Region south of the Yangtze River in North China”. The cur- rent Ybngnian Ancient Town has the rampart that is ten meters in height and eight meters in thickness. The rampart and the moat are basically reserved intact except some gate tower and corner tower have been destroyed. Here is also the birthplace of the Yanct and Wu’s Taiji Martial Art.

Hebei Province encircles Beijing, Tianjin and the Bohai Sea and lies in the traffic hub of China. All the trunk railways and highways from Beijing to various places of China must go through Hebei Province. The ports along the coastline of Hebei Province are the important estuaries of the north and northwest regions of China. In addition, there are airports in Shijiazhuang, Qinhuangdao and Handan respectively.

The folk arts of Hebei Province enjoy a high reputation at home and abroad. They include Hebei Bangzi (Clapper Opera), Tangshan Shadow Play, Pingju Opera, Laoting Dagu (Big Drum Recitative), ancient country music, Yuxian paper-cuts, Wuqiang New Year pictures, Cangzhou martial art and Wuqiao acrobatics.
Hebei Province lies in the east coast of the south temperate zone and middle temperature zone continent in China, faces the sea and leans against the land. The north and west parts of Hebei Province are covered with mountains, and the Hebei Plain spreads in the southeast. Influenced by the geographical location and terrain, the outstanding feature of the climate in Hebei is the obvious monsoon phenomenon.
Specifically, the climate in Hebei Province features the cold winter with less snowfall, the dry spring with prevailing sandstorm, the hot summer with rich rainfall and the sunny autumn with moderate temperature.
